General Causes of Rope Carrier Failure

• Wrong selection of wire rope type
• Use of larger or smaller diameter rope
• Faulty bearing or misalignment of one or more pulleys
• Incorrect pulley groove profiles
• Carrier Ropes running out of pulley grooves
• Worn out pulley grooves often with sharp edges in the case of alloys  type, brass or aluminium pulleys
• Pulley grooves jammed with paper chips, broke or size / coating deposits
• Pulleys small in diameter causing excessive rope flexing
• Pulleys with seized or partially seized bearings
• Severe obstructions or projections in rope carrier path
• Rope path allowing rope to be soaked in size or coating chemicals
• Fabric or Felts rubbing on ropes
• Ropes gets crossed
• Bad or insufficiently tapered splices
• Tensioning devices get jerky movements or low tension or insufficient weight
